IMPORTANT NPCS

Fleet Admiral Bulsara ››
Rank: Fleet Admiral
Species: Human
Personality:
Quiet, firm, commanding. The Fleet Admiral rarely spends time in public and, when he needs to speak, he speaks through a younger member of the crew whose sole occupation seems to be repeating the nearly inaudible comments of the Fleet Admiral for everyone to hear. An avid music lover. Disregards regulations about smoking on the bridge, he's one of the few people who engage in the habit.

History:
Fleet Admiral Bulsara. When asked his full name, people will stare and repeat 'Fleet Admiral Bulsara'. The oldest living member of the 43rd Scutum-Crux Fleet, his entire history is extremely classified, unlike the open records of every other member of the military. The man was old when the Fleet launched, images of him as Captain of the Juggernaut when the fleet left for its mission aren't hard to find.

The parts of his history that are easy to find are the history of the fleet. His record is astonishing and the people of the fleet practically deify him. He slew the Neverborn Queen in a duel on Terrakis Minor, outwitted the Skiterean Death Lords, and, according to some, destroyed the Temple of Youth to prevent the Elder God Tyrezius from blighting the galaxy for eternity. The most common rumor for his increased longevity is either his temporary stay there (despite the fact that no other crewmember enjoyed such benefits) or that he spends twenty hours a day in a stasis chamber.

Fleet Admiral Bulsara is the single highest authority in the Fleet. However, he rarely gets involved anymore, preferring to leave the runnings to younger men. No one knows why he hasn't retired.

Gallean Bailey ››
Rank: Admiral
Species: Kilesian
Personality:
Irritable, cautious, crafty. Respects Fleet Admira Bulsara, but dislikes him as a person. Raised by monks in the gas-temples of Pama, Bailey is a surname adopted when he joined the Fleet thirty years ago. He is slightly out of touch with the men under his command, purposefully trying to see them as numbers rather than people. It's harsh, but a lesson he felt he learned on a ground mission when he froze at the idea of sending a group he considered his family to their possible deaths.

History:
A Kilesian priest, Gallean adopted the surname 'Bailey' when he joined the Fleet in return for a starship captain trading his own life for Gallean's. He had a meteoric rise through the military power structure, barring the loss of an entire company in the Battle of Juspice Tertra.

A model modern Admiral, he is still disliked by a majority of those who serve under him for his tendency to forget names and treat them as 'game pieces' rather than people.

Jack Hollis ››
Rank: Captain of the Invincible
Species: Human
Personality:
Jovial, fearless, rather dim. A very boisterous man who loves to 'live life to the fullest'. Luck more than skill is the reason for his rank, he tends to lead with his chin in any situation. He is highly charismatic, however, and has a silver tongue that makes him a natural in diplomatic situations. Has a strong dislike for robots and artificial intelligences, but accepts that not all of them are against his interests.

History:
A third-generation colonist, Hollis joined the military because he lacked the skill to do anything else. There he learned diplomacy, combat, and how much he loved to toss out orders but hated actually being in the military. He was assigned to the Invincible as an ensign and rose through the ranks swiftly.

A favorite of Admiral Bailey due to his unquestioning obedience to orders and seeming inability to think outside the box, Hollis is also popular with his crew. He takes the time to get to know all of them, even the temporary members, and will fight for them whenever he gets a chance. In combat, his tactics are strictly by the book, if overly aggressive, and he seems able to charm at least one member of nearly every alien delegation he meets.

Urist McEngineer ››
Rank: Science Captain, Captain of the Glorious Dream of Uncontested Starfall
Species: Dorf
Personality:
Curious, hot-tempered, mercurial. Urist McEngineer is your typical dorf. A love of gold (and radioactive materials), alcohol, meat, and discovery, Urist captains the Glorious Dream of Uncontested Starfall. He uses several of its labs for his own side-projects and has been known to lock himself into one for weeks or even days if a mood overtakes him. Members of his crew have learned to avoid him when he's in a mood, as the tantrums that result can be... ugly. His inventions often make Command... nervous, to be tactful, and many of the designs he creates end up in the Black Technology Vault.

History:
A second generation colonist, Urist's family hoped to settle down on a planet with great earth for digging. Or even a nearby asteroid field. So far, it hasn't happened.

Science Captain McEngineer is considered to be the greatest engineer in the Fleet, or perhaps the most terrifying. At least three of his inventions are banned by galactic treaty.

As one of the few who've taken the time to learn the language of the Uncontested Starfall, he is considered invaluable by the fleet. It was his fold-space experiment that caused the influx of ships and personnel from other universes.

Latoya Allerdyce ››
Rank: Captain of the Rasputin
Species: Human
Personality:
Compassionate, authoritative, levelheaded. Quick to laughter and unwilling to put up with fools, Captain Allerdyce is every bit as tough as her namesake. She prefers a peaceful resolution to any meeting, but isn't afraid to leave everything in her path a smoking ruin. Models herself somewhat after Fleet Admiral Bulsara. Willing to give just about anyone a shot. Chews on cigars she rolls herself when contemplating her next move.

History:
Captain of the Rasputin, Latoya Allerdyce is an accomplished diplomat, having gained a reputation in this new part of the galaxy for even-handedness and impartiality. Greater still is her reputation for leaving anyone who opposes her a smoking ruin. At sixty years old, with over forty years of experience in the fleet (and more than one demotion) Allerdyce has proven just as indestructible as her ship's namesake.

Some people suspect that the only reason she isn't an Admiral is that Bailey doesn't want a peer he can't predict.

Maria Masters ››
Rank: Mayor
Species: Human
b>Personality:
Warm, welcoming, friendly. A grandmotherly figure, she is also the second most powerful figure in the Fleet. Very concerned about morale, Mayor Masters is convinced that one day they will settle down. Half a million people rely on her for survival, but she refuses to crack under the pressure. Still, she is aging and unhappy about it, and bitterly wishes she knew the Fleet Admiral's secret.

History:
Elected multiple times in the last thirty years, Mayor Masters is no stranger to the struggles of leading a fleet this size. From an outsider's perspective, however, the crown doesn't seem to weigh heavily at all. Constantly coming up with celebrations and making weekly broadcasts on how the Fleet is doing, she is fond of throwing parties with little excuse.

Those who work under her claim that she's very demanding, but never asks more than what can be done.

Thaddeus T. Thrax III ››
Rank: Deputy Mayor
Species: Human
Personality:
No nonsense, no fun, no tomfoolery. Deputy Mayor Thaddeus T. Thrax III is all about order and obeying the rules. He works to keep the extravagance of Mayor Masters in line, and filters much of what she has to deal with. That isn't to say that the colony would collapse without him, but his presence helps to keep it in line. Has a soft spot for animals. Unwilling to break major rules, but is well aware of loopholes and has been known to point them out to people he feels for but cannot officially assist.

History:
Born a second generation colonist Thaddeus T. Thrax III joined the military as an enlisted member. The popular joke goes that he left because there wasn't a rank that was alliterative enough for his tastes. He served well through several crises, earning several commendations during his tour. Afterwards, he set his eye on politics, overseeing colony development and resource management for several years before being appointed to the position of Deputy Mayor.

Twenty years as Deputy Mayor hasn't lessened his adherence to the rules any. He gets on well with Mayor Masters, but his loyalty is still to the military and he backs them whenever a conflict of interest arises.

Graham Baker ››
Rank: New Arrivals Counselor
Species: Human
Personality:
Worn down, friendly, quiet. Counselor Baker knows that he's got a long road ahead of him. Assigned to the New Arrivals in anticipation for the distress that their appearance in this world might give, he's honestly baffled as to how to handle it. Still, he believes that with kindness and patience, he can soothe everyone's fears and settle them into the new reality that they will live in.

History:
Graham Baker is a third generation colonist. From childhood, he saw himself as a peacemaker. He wasn't very good at it and ended up constantly shoving himself into the affairs of others. It wasn't until he received diplomatic training that he realized his mistakes.

His diplomatic career started well: Graham was the assistant to one of the more competent politicians in the Fleet. However, during an altercation with Byzantian Flesh Mongers, he learned that boldly meeting alien races was not his forte. He swiftly found other jobs in the inner workings of the government, assigned here and there as counselor before moving to make room for new blood. After the shocking entry of the New Arrivals, he volunteered to assist them in any way he could.

Arvel ››
Rank: Pest
Species: Extra-Universal Being
Personality:
Easily bored, easily amused, somewhat sadistic. Arvel views the various species of the universe to be playthings. She toys with them without much care, poking and prodding events just to see what happens. Whether it results in a grand romance or a genocide is of no difference to her, as long as something occurs.

She pays attention to the Fleet because it's shiny and new, at least for her. Her goals are unknown, her intentions are unclear. All that's certain is that she cares little for the well-being of the population, but won't let them be too outmatched in her games unless she's trying to make a point.

History:
A being from beyond the boundaries of this universe, Arvel once claimed to be a sixth-dimensional entity. She is responsible for the Fleet being brought over to the opposite side of the Galaxy from home. Every few months, she drops in with a new 'game' to play, testing the limits of the Confederation's lost fleet.
