Reserves are CLOSED

When you reserve, you have two weeks from the date the mod team recognizes your reservation to submit an application. While you have this character reserved, no one else may apply for that character. If you do not apply for that character before your time expires, we will allow you to reserve only once more. You will have three (3) days grace period to request an extension on your reserve before it will be canceled entirely. If you extend your reserve another two weeks, after that, you will no longer be able to reserve that character, though you may still submit an application (if there are no other competing reserves).

Please post the code below in the comments, filling out the necessary portions. You may only reserve one character at a time.

Once you have been accepted, please fill out the information requested below, so that your new character can be added to our Taken list.

Please put your character's canon in the subject of your post. If your character is an AU, note that under Canon Point. Also remember that you must have a permissions post for your character. You can use this one here if you need a code, but any will do as long as it covers the same basic information.

Applications are CLOSED

If your application has been posted for over three days with no answer, please contact the moderator.

Below, you will find the application to join Crux Fleet. Before you join, please make sure that you have read the rules and Frequently Asked Questions pages.

Please post your applications in the comments below, not as links. You can post them in your character journals as well if you like, but the moderators will want everything gathered in this post. If you ask for it, your applications will be screened after acceptance.

You may send in one application per cycle. Characters will enter the game on the first of every month.

Player Info ››
Name: [What do we call you?]
Age: [If you'd rather give a vague idea (over/under 18, mid-twenties, etc.), feel free.]
Time Zone: [Optional. Might be nice for planning.]
Contact Information: [E-mail, AIM, Plurk, journal, ham radio callsign, whatever you feel comfortable sharing. Please have at least two.]
Other Characters Played: [Have you played here before? If not, leave this blank. If so, please list their names and journals.]

Character Info ››
Name: [Self explanatory]
Canon: [Where do they come from? If they're an OC, say so here. If you're playing an OC based in Crux Fleet, just put that. If you're AUing your character to fit into the Fleet, then say that.]
Age: [Could be important!]
Appearance: [Largely for novel characters/OCs. Just give a quick rundown. If canon characters want, list height and weight, along with other important details, under here. Not going to be a huge part of your app, but it might be good to do.]
Canon Point: [When are you taking them from? List a chapter or episode, or give us something like "Soon after the defeat of Argon the Anti-King".]

History: [Just link to a wiki or something if you don't want to type it out. If it's not available, just type it out here. Don't worry about the minutiae, just cover the important events. If you're playing an OC or an AU, go a bit deeper into it. The mods will work with you, if you like. If you're bringing in a character from a previous game, cover important things that happened to them in that setting.]

Personality: [Probably the most important part of any application. Tell us about your character. Not how cool they are, or how soulful their eyes seem, but rather what makes them tick, how they view the world, their life goals, their fears, and their doubts. What are their strengths and weaknesses. Convince us that you know the character and that you know them well. And start off with the idea that the mods don't know them at all.]

Abilities/Powers/Skills: [Do your characters have some sort of ability that normal humans don't? Are they above and beyond somehow? If so, explain how here, and do so in detail. If character hosts a wide variety of magic that lets them do practically anything, say so and cover the most often used abilities. Or, if it's available and you'd like, link to a wiki. Be thorough.

For truly absurd power levels, the mods might request things to be toned down. However, everyone will be treated as roughly being on the same level, unless it becomes important to the plot, much like how we're handling mecha and starships.

Also include skills. What are your characters good at? Piloting, languages, medicine, diplomacy, mad science? List it here. If there's any outstanding skills they LACK, list that here as well. The mods aren't interested in "Master martial artist, but not good at physics", but "Can pilot anything, but can't swim" is something that could be important.]

Weaknesses: [This section is purely for special weaknesses. 'He may be strong, but can still be killed by bullets' is not a weakness unless bullets are super effective. Emotional/mental weaknesses should be kept in the personality section. What we're looking for here are things like "Poisoned by kryptonite", "powers don't effect wood", "must consume blood every three days or instant coma results", etc. Specifically, things that normal people do not suffer from.

If your character is totally normal or has no weaknesses, just put n/a.]

Special Items: [Do your characters have things like PETs, giant robots, suits of powered armor, magic wands, or other things coming in? If so, list them here and state their capabilities.]

RP Sample: [Show us how you play! Sample should be a few paragraphs, basically showing how your character thinks and acts. Feel free to use any setting. We will accept samples from [community profile] testrun_box, [community profile] dear_mun, [community profile] dear_player, or test drive memes, but not samples from other games.]

Do you have an idea that could benefit the game somehow? A possible plot idea? A game location you'd like to see? Something along those lines?

Post them here. The mods will review and consider them. We do not promise that your suggestion will be implemented right away, or even used at all, but every entry will be read and discussed.

If your question is not answered here, ask in the comments.

Player Concerns
  1. What kind of game is this?
  2. How did my characters get here?
  3. What kind of characters are accepted?
  4. Can we app more than one character from a single canon?
  5. How many characters can we have at once?
  6. What if I drop a character?
  7. And a hiatus? How are those handled?
  8. Where do I go for plotting or talking to the mods? Not about problems, but just for fun.
  9. What do we need for activity check?
  10. How will we handle canon updates?
Character Concerns
  1. So, I'm playing a character that was played earlier, but the other player dropped them. What do I do?
  2. Can we have two different versions of the same character in the game at once?
  3. My character needs some kind of drug/food/medicine to live! What do?
  4. My character isn't human. How do we handle this?
  5. What if my character is dead?
  6. But what if my character's a ghost or a zombie or a vampire?
  7. What happens if my character dies in-game?
  8. All right, what about robotic characters? Transformers, Robot Masters, and the like?
  9. What if my character has pets or summoned monsters?
  10. Can my characters keep their ships and mecha?
  11. So, how about combat?
  12. So, what, no power limits?
  13. How do my characters communicate?
  14. Whoa, text? Is everything in English? Are there universal translators?
  15. Okay, so I've got my character, they're awake and know what's going on, they have a communicator... Now what?
  16. Military? Do I have to do that to get my ass-kicking on?
  17. How does money work?
  18. Can players influence worldbuilding or plots?
  19. My characters are actually giants. Where can they wander about?

The 43rd Fleet is diminished from what it once was, and now consists of a single Pilgrim-class colony ship, two Chicomecoatl-class agricultural vessels, four Juggernaut-class warships, a trio of Spartan-class cruisers, and a gifted Firaxian-class science and engineering vessel.

  1. Treat others as you wish to be treated. It's called the Golden Rule in some places, and it's a good one. Remember, we're all here to have fun. Your fun isn't any more valuable than anyone else's, so don't ruin it for them if you don't want it ruined for you.

  2. That said, tell someone if you're uncomfortable. It doesn't have to be the person, you could tell the mods and they'll handle the situation. We can't do anything if no one admits that there's a problem. We can try to catch these things before they start, but we're not all-knowing. We'd much rather people talked out their issues instead of letting them fester.

The mods may joke and play with everyone, but when the mod hats are put on, we're going to be completely fair, impartial, and professional. Our job isn't just to run the game, but also to make sure it runs smoothly both character-wise and player-wise.

  3. This game is rated PG-13 for the most part. There may be some higher things going on, depending on the situation and how the players planned things.

For things like suicide, sex, self-mutilation, torture, abuse, etc. you will need to put up a warning in the post and place the content behind a cut (ex. <cut text="Content Warning: Sex, Drugs, and Rock&Roll">). You should also consider asking beforehand to see if it's going to bother anyone. Be considerate. This flashes back to rule #1.

  4. All players must have a Permissions Post for their character, which will be linked on the Taken List alongside the character's journal. You can get one here if you don't already have one, but any style of permissions will do as long as it covers the same essential information. Don't do something to a player that goes against their permissions post (ex. if they say not to break the fourth wall, don't have your character call them out on being fictional; if they so no injuries without permission, don't make assumptions in your replies and say your character injured theirs).

If someone does do something against your wishes, see rule #2. It may be a simple misunderstanding, so please try to ask the other player to correct their mistake first before contacting a mod.

  5. IC =/= OOC. Just because a character is a massive jerk in the game, it doesn't mean that the player is. Just because a character hates your character, it doesn't mean that the player does. Please keep that in mind.

The opposite is also true: if you have issues with a player OOCly, don't use your character as a mouthpiece. OOC problems should be handled OOCly between players, or with a mod, and not through IC interactions.

These rules are subject to change at any moment. When they change, it will be announced on the OOC comm.

Humanity has expanded its borders.

Forming a Confederation of Inhabited Systems with several other races discovered after First Contact, and facing the strain on their home planet, mankind took to the stars, placing colonies first in their own systems, then in friendly systems, and finally in roving colony fleets. The 43rd Scutum-Crux Fleet was designed to colonize any HZ-class planet, with a cityship, three gargantuan agricultural vessels, and a fleet of nearly a dozen warships to protect such easy targets from pirates, slavers, and enemies of the Confederacy.

It had gone well, until a being of immense power, a trickster, decided to 'assist' them on their goal and transported them across the galaxy, to the unexplored portion on the other side of the Galactic Core. The planets they found there were certainly suitable for life, but they were also inhabited. And, regrettably, hostile. Surrounded by unknown races that they couldn't communicate with, the fleet moved on, desperate to find a sanctuary to settle the colony on and regain communications with their superiors.

That was nearly 125 years ago. It is now 0458 A.C. The fleet still moves on, navigating through friendly space and avoiding pirates and enemy war fleets alike.

This is the kind of thing you hear when you wake up. The first thing you'd noticed was the beep of heart monitors. Dozens of them. A blinking light somewhere in your field of vision said 'Awake', and nurses were heading towards you. The room is bright, almost too bright for your eyes, but there are filled beds and people floating in tanks as far as the eye can see.

When the nurses finally reach you, they smile in relief and offer you a wheelchair. They don't speak any language you're familiar with, but you have no trouble understanding them. They say it's because of their sleep-learning systems, that they'll tell you everything at the briefing.

You are, it seems, one of the lucky ones.

Crux Fleet is a RPG. A Space RPG.

It's a space opera, full of adventure, exploration, battles, and possibly even some romance. The main influences are Star Trek, Macross, and Star Wars, to give you an idea of what to expect from this. If you're looking for genres, it's an adventure/exploration game with hints of slice of life and a focus on dealing with new races, hostile and non.

The 43rd Fleet is smaller than it was when it started, and several generations have passed, resulting in people who have lived their entire lives never walking on a planet's surface.

The fleet travels from world to world, system to system, scanning and testing to see if the planets there are suitable for colonization. Along the way, they get tied up in intergalactic politics, planetary emergencies, and end up facing off against a plethora of enemies.

Your characters, after an incident no one fully understands, appeared in the universe and were rescued by the Fleet. They don't have a way to take them home, but they do have details on the accident that brought them there, and they're willing to send them home as soon as they figure out how.

Until then, your character will be given housing and funding enough for two or three weeks, long enough to get used to life on the ship and find some way of making themselves useful. Whether this involves becoming a student, joining the military, becoming a drycleaner, or becoming a scientist, it doesn't matter to the people in charge. There's no room for slackers in the fleet, and they've spent quite a few resources keeping them alive. It's only polite that the rescued party pitch in and help out, after all that effort.
